At Pangere Journeys, I believe travel should leave a positive impact on the people and places we visit. Since 2016, I’ve been designing and leading journeys that balance meaningful travel with respect for the people, cultures, and environments that make each destination unique.
Sustainability isn’t just about protecting the environment—it’s about respecting local cultures, supporting local economies, and helping ensure that future generations can enjoy the same destinations we do today.
As a small, independent tour operator, I have the flexibility to make thoughtful choices about where we stay, eat, and spend our time. I encourage every traveler to join me in traveling responsibly and leaving destinations better than we found them.
Environmental Responsibility
I strive to minimize the environmental impact of every journey I design.
- I encourage travelers to conserve water and energy whenever possible, especially in destinations where resources are limited.
- Please stay on marked trails and respect protected natural areas. Never remove plants, wildlife, rocks, or other natural features.
- Leave no trace. Dispose of waste properly, recycle when facilities are available, and consider picking up litter when you encounter it.
- Whenever practical, reduce single-use plastics by carrying a reusable water bottle and refusing disposable items such as plastic straws, cutlery, and shopping bags.
- Respect wildlife by observing animals from a distance and never feeding or disturbing them.
Cultural Respect
Meaningful travel begins with understanding and respecting the communities we visit.
- Whenever possible, I incorporate local guides, cultural experiences, and locally owned businesses to provide a deeper understanding of each destination.
- Please dress and behave appropriately when visiting religious sites, rural communities, and culturally significant locations.
- Ask permission before photographing individuals whenever appropriate.
- Approach every destination with curiosity, humility, and respect for different ways of life.
- Because I specialize in private journeys and very small groups (typically no more than six travelers worldwide and eight in Colombia), my tours minimize their impact while creating more authentic, meaningful, and personal experiences.
Social Responsibility
I believe tourism should benefit everyone involved.
- I am committed to treating every person with dignity and respect and do not tolerate discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, or any other protected characteristic.
- I do not knowingly work with businesses that exploit workers or employ child labor.
- I seek partnerships with tourism providers who share my commitment to ethical, responsible, and sustainable practices.
- When appropriate, I encourage travelers to engage with local communities in respectful and meaningful ways that benefit both visitors and residents.
Supporting Local Economies
Whenever possible, I choose locally owned businesses because they help keep tourism revenue within the communities we visit.
This includes supporting locally owned hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, transportation providers, guides, artisans, markets, and family-run businesses whenever they meet my standards for quality, safety, and ethical practices.
I also encourage travelers to:
- Purchase locally made products instead of imported souvenirs.
- Tip local guides and service providers when appropriate.
- Support artisans and small businesses by shopping in local markets and independent stores.
My Commitment
Responsible tourism is an ongoing journey, and I continually look for ways to improve my practices as Pangere Journeys grows and as responsible travel continues to evolve.
By traveling with Pangere Journeys, you’re helping support small businesses, local communities, and more thoughtful travel around the world. Together, we can create memorable journeys that respect the places we visit and leave a positive impact for the people who call them home.
